This episode is a bit shorter than usual, but I really wanted to drop in quickly and give you a little update on my knitting projects. The next couple of weeks are pretty planned out and I don’t know yet when I will find time again to produce the next podcast video.

Thanks to all of you who encouraged me to incorporate more information on the topic of lanolin in my podcast. I will gladly do that – probably in a separate video! But also here it will take 1-2 months until I have time for it.

Knitting in Progress

Unini the unicorn

  • Pattern: I knit this unicorn last year and now I recreated it to write a pattern. It’s currently being testknit and I hope to release it during the next month or so!
  • Yarn: organic merino dk dyed in rainbow colors to mimick the naturally dyed shades of the original unicorn.
  • Needles: 3.5 mm / US 4, Knit Pro Naturals circular needle, magic loop technique

Flower Potion

  • Pattern: Fall Flower by Vera Sanon, was originally released as an MKAL.
  • Yarn: Malabrigo Arroyo in colorway Pocion (sport weight yarn).
  • Needles: 3.5 mm / US 4, addi bamboo interchangeable circular needles.
  • This project was started already in spring 2017 but fell into a deep hiatus over the summer. Now I have finally taken it out again and am determined to finish it.

Dyeing

For the Exploration Station

I showed you four naturally dyed skeins which I am planning to use for the Exploration Station shawl by Stephen West.

Yarn: Merino superwash singles – 400 m / 100 g.

Browns (light and dark): dyed with walnut leaves and husks.
Yellow: dyed with onion skins, and quickly dipped into the walnut dye bath to mute the color down a little.
Blue: Indigo

Neon Green Sock Yarn

The neon green skein with black speckles was dyed using solid acid dyes.
I used Chartreuse (neon green) and Jet Black from Jacquard and Green (dark green) from Ashford and speckled those powders over the yarn in a stainless steel baking pan. There was just a little bit of water in the pan.
Then I heated it until it was fixed (water was running clear). I moved the yarn around a bit during the heating to check how it looks… that’s why my speckles are a little blurred 🙂

#SELFdyedKAL

I am happy to announce a new KAL cohosted by the amazing MarinaToys and myself!
Check out Marina’s Podcast here.

In this KAL we are going to work on projects for which we dyed the yarn ourselves.

No matter whether you’re an experienced indie dyer or very new with the whole dyeing adventure – just knit something out of your own handdyed yarn (or your own handdyed and handspun fiber).
You are free to use any kind of dyes: acid dyes, natural dyes, food coloring, easter egg color, kool aid… any dye that works!

Time Frame
October 1st 2017 — January 31st 2018
All further information on this KAL can be found here in the ravelry thread!
